Creating the Next Generation of Care

The Beebe Medical Foundation and Beebe Healthcare announced today a transformational gift of $10 million from the Ma-Ran Foundation to help fund improvements on Beebe Healthcare's Lewes campus as part of the Creating the Next Generation of Care services and facilities expansion plan. This gift represents the largest gift received by Beebe, the largest gift in Sussex County, and one of the largest gifts made in the state of Delaware.

“The Rollins family’s gift is so inspirational! We are so honored that Peggy and Randall, their two daughters, Pam Rollins and Amy Rollins Kreisler, and their son, Tim Rollins, joined us today as we announce this historic gift for Beebe,” said Judy L. Aliquo, CFRE, President and CEO, Beebe Medical Foundation. “This generous investment in Beebe could not have come at a better time, as we embark on the largest expansion plan in our history. Beebe Healthcare is a very special place! Every day, we hear countless stories from our patients and their families about the excellent care received with unprecedented compassion provided by our doctors, nurses and team members. We cannot thank the Rollins family enough as well as all of the donors who so generously year after year contribute to Beebe—our local, award-winning, not-for-profit community healthcare system in Sussex County.”

Peggy and Randall Rollins shared, "We are pleased to be able to contribute to this wonderful institution."

The Rollins family has supported Beebe for more than 30 years with their loyal support. In 2011, R. Randall Rollins and Margaret (Peggy) H. Rollins donated $3 million through their Ma-Ran Foundation toward the expansion and naming of Beebe Healthcare’s Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing, previously the Beebe School of Nursing. This project, completed in 2015, doubled the capacity of the school, and replaced the 50-year-old dormitory with a new three-story, 18,000-square-foot-building containing new, modern classrooms and clinical laboratories.

“As Beebe continues to plan and develop services, programs, and facilities for our growing population, we will look to those we serve for their continued confidence in what we are doing as well as their support to help us expand throughout the county,” said Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, President and CEO, Beebe Healthcare. “Beebe has been so fortunate over its 100+ year history to be able to count on the community not only for their support of our physicians, nurses, and other team members and the services they provide, but also for their financial support and investment in Beebe. Our expansion plans will not only transform the way we deliver care but will also make medical services so much more accessible in our community. We thank the Rollins family for this incredibly generous gift, and for helping us continue the legacy started by James and Richard Beebe when they built a two-room, three-bed hospital in 1916 to serve their growing community.”

Growth Expected to Continue

Sussex County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. The population of the Lewes-Rehoboth area is projected to grow 9.2 percent in the next five years, higher than Sussex County at 7.4 percent growth rate, and much higher than the U.S. population at a 3.8 percent growth rate. Beebe Healthcare announced this proposed expansion in order to serve the growing community.
For more than 100 years, Beebe Healthcare has served the Delaware Beach community and surrounding areas of Sussex County. As the community has grown, Beebe has also grown from a small family hospital into a large, state-of-the-art healthcare system.

Thomas J. Protack, Vice President of Development for Beebe Medical Foundation expressed his gratitude for the gift, and spoke of the positive effect a gift of this magnitude can have with other donors, “This gift is not only historic but transformational. It is not every day a not-for-profit community hospital in Delaware receives such a wonderful generous gift of $10 million. It is truly a sign that the Rollins family trusts the leadership of Beebe and our master plan. Their gift certainly will inspire others to invest in Beebe and help us change and save lives every day.”
