Bethany Area Realty Donates $5,000 to Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center
Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center is proud to be the recipient of a $5,000 donation from Bethany Area Realty.
The donation was a result of the 2017 Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5K Fun Run and 3K Walk. The event last year was canceled due to weather, however, Ann Raskauskas, owner of Bethany Area Realty, still wanted the registration funds and money raised to go to Tunnell.
The funds were accepted by Beebe Medical Foundation and will be used to support cancer services in the community, said Judy Aliquo, President of Beebe Medical Foundation.
The 2018 Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5K Fun Run and 3K Walk is set for Saturday, May 12. The theme is, “Star Wars: The Force Against Cancer.” For more information about the race go to their website at: bethanybeachbreastcancer.com or call (302) 537-9700.
Breast Cancer Affects Everyone
Ann Raskauskas never thought she would end up as a fundraiser for cancer, however that is exactly what happened when several of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I just realized that one way or another, everyone is affected by breast cancer,” Ann said. “I wanted to do something about it, so I came up with the idea for the run.”
The first event was held in 2009, and since then the funds have been earmarked to support breast cancer survivors and to find a cure. Ann has raised tens of thousands of dollars. A couple years ago, Ann wanted to localize the funds raised to support those in her community.
“As a Realtor, I understand how important community is, and I couldn’t think of an organization more committed to the cancer community than Tunnell Cancer Center,” Ann said. “Our breast cancer race provides a forum for participants to celebrate the lives of survivors and of those who have lost the battle. We are all about celebrating their spirit and their lives!”
Beebe Healthcare is planning for the next generation of care with patients in mind. In order to serve patients where they live, Beebe is planning to build a new health campus near Millville, which will include a free-standing emergency department and a second cancer center.
“Gifts like this one from Bethany Area Realty go to support our cancer center and those who work in the community to save lives every day,” said Aliquo. “As a not-for-profit, independent healthcare system, we depend on the generosity of our community. Every dollar raised here, stays here.”
