ICU Nurse Olivia Farcas, RN, CCRN, Wins 4th DAISY Award
Beebe Healthcare is celebrating Olivia Farcas, RN, CCRN, as its latest DAISY Award recipient, and Farcas’ fourth nomination. The healthcare system presents DAISY awards to nurses who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to nursing excellence and the delivery of compassionate care for patients.
Farcas works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and won the award based on feedback from a patient’s family member about their recent care experience. The family member explained that Farcas took the time to understand her loved one’s needs and went the extra mile to accommodate her, despite challenging circumstances.
“When my partner was brought into the ICU, she was immediately intubated, which made communication very difficult,” the family member wrote. “Olivia put together an alphabet table to make it possible for my partner to spell out words by pointing to letters, at a time when she couldn’t speak. She used the table to communicate with Olivia and the rest of the care team in the ICU.”
Additionally, the comments made it clear that Farcas is a nurse who cares for others with genuine compassion and empathy.
“Olivia bonded with us. She was patient, compassionate, and truly stood out,” said the family member. “She and my partner were like two sisters working with one another. She made us comfortable and was also there to just hold my partner’s hand when needed.”
Beebe names DAISY Award winners on a quarterly basis. Each winner receives a certificate and a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture, inscribed with the words “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” The DAISY Award is presented at hospitals across the United States in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease. The care Patrick received inspired a new way of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients.
