Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center Receives $30,000 from 2018 Flounder Pounder Open
The Flounder Pounder Open, hosted by Paradise Marina and Short’s Marine, is the largest flounder tournament in the world. This year’s tournament will once again benefit Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center and will be held at Paradise Grill in Long Neck from Wednesday, August 14 through Sunday, August 18. Participants may fish three of the five days. Prize monies have increased by $65,000 this year, with total cash prizes of $300,000.
The 2018 Flounder Pounder held in August 2018 raised $30,000 for Tunnell. $50 from every boat entry was donated to Tunnell, along with a portion of the winnings from several participants.
“Every year, we are excited to partner with our local businesses, Paradise Marina and Short’s Marine, to raise awareness in our local community to support our Tunnell Cancer Center,” said Tom Protack, Vice President of Development, Beebe Medical Foundation. “Every year, our county is growing with more patients and families who need our oncological services, and thankfully, every year, this great Flounder Tournament raises more money! It is a win-win for everyone.”
“We are honored to choose the Tunnell Cancer Center as our beneficiary every year,” said Al Tortella, owner of Paradise Grill and Marina. “My family has been touched by cancer and, no doubt, many of our boat teams have loved ones struggling with cancer. It is a great opportunity for all of us to have some fun fishing while raising money that stays locally here in Sussex County. A special thanks to Makers Mark, Determined, Stalker, Yahoo’s, and Garrison Homes, teams that donated a portion of their winnings back to Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center.”
“As a business, we encourage our residents to shop and buy local, so we are committed to giving locally to Beebe,” said Julie Short, owner of Short’s Marine. “As Beebe grows to meet our needs, it is important that we grow our giving to support them. The Flounder Pounder is a wonderful event that gives lots of people the opportunity to support the Tunnell Cancer Center.”
