Cape Henlopen High School Wellness Center Invites the Public to Participate in the 20th Anniversary Celebration April 14

For 20 years, the Wellness Center at Cape Henlopen High School has partnered with parents, school nurses, and the students’ primary care physicians to provide free health education, nutritional help, and emotional support.

The Wellness Center is staffed by Beebe Medical Group team members and operates in partnership with Beebe, the Delaware Department of Health, and Cape Henlopen School District to support teens in improving their health and wellness.

On Thursday, April 14, the Wellness Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an evening of festivities between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Cape Henlopen High School rotunda, cafeteria, and auditorium.

Administrators, faculty, Delaware Department of Public Health, legislators, and current and former students are invited to share their thoughts and memories of their experiences with the Wellness Center.

The evening will include music, exhibits and light refreshments, as well as the presentations and personal stories. JROTC students will greet attendees and the school band will play the National Anthem.

Tours of the Wellness Center will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Cape Henlopen High School Wellness Center is one of three that Beebe staffs. These centers help make sure that busy teens with even busier parents don't experience a healthcare gap. The Wellness Centers focus on prevention and promoting positive physical and mental health that will carry adolescents through adulthood. Staff members include nurse practitioners, physician assistants, licensed social workers, registered dietitians and administrative assistants.

Parental consent is a cornerstone of Wellness Center treatment, which is provided free of charge. If a student has health insurance, it may be billed, but no copay will ever be charged. Parents must grant permission to allow their child to access services. Services the Wellness Centers provide include:

  • Routine physical examinations
  • Sports or employment physicals
  • Treatment of minor illness and injury
  • Immunizations
  • Prescriptions for routine medications
  • Family physician follow-up for treatment of high-risk conditions
  • Mental health counseling
  • Educational programs on stress reduction, anger management and nutrition
  • Peer mentoring
