Delaware Chapter of the American College of Physicians names Beebe physician Best Hospitalist for 2015

Julie Holmon, MD, Medical Director of the Hospital Medicine program at Beebe Healthcare, has been named the Best Hospitalist for 2015 by the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

The Hospitalist Award is given to honor an internist and Chapter member who has demonstrated excellence in hospital medicine.

“Among the many changes we have seen in healthcare, one of the most significant is the nature of the relationship between hospitals and primary care physicians.  With the significant shortage of primary care physicians in our area, and the increasing demands on their time, most primary care physicians are spending all of their available time in the office trying to meet the needs of a growing and elderly population.  That requires having hospitalists care for their patients when they need to be admitted to the hospital.  As a result, we have seen our hospitalist program grow from a few physicians providing coverage on a part-time basis, to twenty-four (24) hospitalists working full-time and providing around-the-clock coverage.  During this period of rapid growth Dr. Holmon, who serves as Medical Director for our hospitalist program, has provided outstanding leadership and stability for our program.  Under her guidance, we have been able to recruit a terrific team of hospitalists who are committed to not only providing outstanding care but ensuring our patients have an excellent experience while in the hospital”, said Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Healthcare.  “All of us at Beebe recognize the importance of Dr. Holmon’s leadership during this period of unprecedented change and are both pleased and proud to see that she is being duly recognized by the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Physicians.”

In 2014, Beebe Medical Group recognized Dr. Holmon as their “Physician of the Year.” Beebe Medical Group includes more than 80 multi-disciplined physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at 17 Beebe Healthcare sites in southern Delaware, including at the Medical Center in Lewes.

A hospital medicine program is one in which a medical center maintains a team of physicians called hospitalists that are based in the hospital and focus on the medical care of the hospitalized patients.  They most often are board certified in internal medicine, and have had extended training and experience in the hospital environment. At Beebe, our hospitalists are board certified in Internal Medicine. They work closely with physicians and other staff members to provide patients with round-the-clock coordination of care during their hospital stay.

Dr Holmon is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and in Pediatrics. She earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware, and at Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. She also is her class representative on the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association.
