Dedicated to helping you look and feel your best

Beebe Healthcare plastic and reconstructive surgery teams perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries. The team is dedicated to helping you look and feel your best. In collaboration with Beebe general surgeons and breast surgical oncology specialists, plastic surgeons work to minimize the time you might spend in surgery for breast reconstruction following breast cancer.

When to Have Reconstruction

Patients who have surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment may choose to also have breast reconstruction surgery. Breast reconstruction is achieved through several plastic surgery techniques that attempt to restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance, and size. Your breast reconstruction surgery is a process between yourself and your surgeon. You determine when and what type of surgery you prefer as part of your health journey.

A woman might choose to have breast reconstruction for many reasons:

  • To make her chest look balanced when she is wearing a bra or swimsuit
  • To help make clothes fit better
  • To permanently regain her breast shape
  • So she won’t have to use a breast form that fits inside the bra (an external prosthesis)
  • To feel better about her body

Breast Reconstruction Surgery Options

Studies show that because the breast looks intact and normal, breast surgery and breast reconstruction procedures have a huge benefit for women’s self-esteem and body image.

Women who are healthy enough for surgery are candidates for breast surgery. Additional tests might be required prior to surgery.

Oncologic surgeons can work directly with plastic surgeons to provide both cancer removal and reconstruction. This efficiency is a win-win for the physicians and the patient, allowing the patient to feel safe and confident in the treatment and care, and to recover while remaining close to home.

Reconstruction is a personal decision. Your surgical team will review your reconstructive surgery options, including:

  • Lumpectomy
  • Total mastectomy
  • Nipple-sparing or skin-sparing mastectomy
  • Breast reconstruction
  • Cosmetic surgeries
