Beebe Healthcare Recognizes Teams during Annual Quality and Safety Awards

Beebe Healthcare recognized employees and physicians for their dedication and commitment to high-quality patient care during the 10th annual Quality and Safety Awards Banquet held November 5 at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach.

The evening represented the culmination of a year’s work by 18 teams, made up of many Beebe team members. The teams designed and implemented process improvement initiatives to positively impact patient care at Beebe.

Three of the 18 teams were presented with awards for their outstanding projects, which solved quality or safety problems identified in the healthcare setting. Beebe was recently awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety.

“I am always impressed with our team members’ ongoing efforts to improve the quality and safety of care for our patients,” said Rick Schaffner, Interim CEO, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Beebe Healthcare. “Tonight’s winners deserve special recognition for identifying a specific problem that needed to be solved, working collaboratively to solve it, and demonstrating that improvement in a quantifiable way.”

Stephen Fanto, MD, Chairman of the Board of Directors’ Quality and Safety Committee, introduced the three teams, who then formally presented their project goals, methodologies, and solutions.

“It is an honor to work with these teams and see the opportunities for improvement they identify and the innovative problem-solving methods they develop,” said Dr. Fanto. “Myself and the entire Quality and Safety Committee thank them for their dedication to Beebe and to improving the quality of patient care every day.”

The three award-winning teams were:

  • Reducing Central Line Infection in the ICU: Presented by April Ahlers, RN, ICU/CTICU Nurse Manager
  • Cleanup of Hospital Registration System Database: Presented by Matthew Kall, Lead Financial Applications Analyst
  • Improving Safe Practices with the Administration of Moderate Sedation: Presented by Liz Zehner, RN, Quality Outcomes Analyst
